Tax News

• If you are registered for a Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) account and currently receive paper mail, the way you receive your mail from the CRA might be changing. Starting July 3, 2025, the CRA transitioned the delivery method for most mail from paper to online for approximately 500,000 benefit recipients. As of September 4, 2025, Phase 2 of this project expanded to include an additional 900,000 individuals, broadening the scope beyond just benefit recipients. To learn more, click here.
• Canada Revenue continues to review personal tax returns, usually after the original filing has been assessed. A review is not an audit; however, you must submit documentation to support deductions claimed. The most commonly reviewed categories include childcare, medical expenses, donations and foreign taxes paid.
• Be AWARE and protect yourself from CRA SCAMS. To learn more, click here.

Submit Documents Electronically

• Upload your tax information to our Secure Portal. If you don’t have a portal, request one here.
• Consolidate information into as few files as possible and organize by type (e.g. income slips, donation receipts, etc.) Submit all documents at the same time if possible.
• If you have Rental, Auto, Home Office or Employment Expenses that you wish to upload on your own spreadsheet instead of entering the data in the form below, insure the sheets are CLEARLY labelled.

Deadlines for Information Submission and Tax Filing

• All documents must be submitted to our office by Wednesday, April 1st, 5:30 p.m. to prepare your return by CRA’s deadline of Thursday, April 30th
• All documents must be submitted to our office by Tuesday, May 12th, 5:30 p.m. to prepare your return by CRA’s Self-Employed deadline of Monday, June 15th

CRA Authorization: New Clients and New GST/HST registrants

• To work with you on your tax return/s, we need access to your CRA account/s
• If you have access to your CRA My Account, in the Profile section you have an option to authorize a new representative. Enter the business number of Ross Professional Corporation, 772575270 – Level 2 Access. Contact us to insure we have access.
• If you do not have access to your CRA My Account, let us know and we will send you an authorization form to sign.
• If you have a GST/HST account, follow the same instructions, using your GST/HST account number.
• If you are a POA or Trustee/Executor of our client, you will need to register as a representative before submitting legal documentation as proof of your status. After gaining access to the account, follow the instructions above to give our firm access to the account.
